Thanks for all the comments. While this is not my first time organizing events, this is my first time organizing a neuroscience meet-up so we will see how we all create this together through our participation. I find the topic fascinating and am glad that there are more knowledgeable others available to share. Post topics you are interested in.

I am glad to see the Neuroscience group starting up again. However given my experience with other groups claiming they are about human mind I may be skeptical & concerned that this group will not focus on neuroscience. Rather they will blend it into psychology, consciousness theories, alternate ideas of mind body dualism. None of those are neuroscience. NS is materialistic, cell biology, neuro-chemistry, molecular study of neuron cell bodies, axon & dendrite function, synaptic (see next post)

transmitter chemistry, calcium channel functioning, etc. However, that does not make it boring, but it does mean you have to acquire some knowledge of the tissue, cells, electrical & chemical activity of the brains biology to comprehend progress this science is achieving today. This along with neuro-pharmacology & other molecular & genetic biological sciences. I hope JME wishes to make the group topics about mammalian addictions, memory functioning, brain diseases such as (see next)

depression, Alzheimer's or Schizophrenia then I will be an enthusiastic attendee & contributor. If the meetings slip onto the slippery slope of metaphysics, alternate psycho-therapy techniques, mind-body dualistic philosophy, or paranormal phenomena (other than how magicians can trick the perceptive areas of human brains) then I will lose interest. Checking the profiles of most attending this first new NS group meetup I think it will be really exciting for me & focus on real neuroscience.

Please forgive my presumptuousness on these posts. Since I miss this groups so much I wanted to attend this Sunday's meeting. Since I will not be able to, I wish to tell JME & the others what I hope the group would wish to get out of such a meetup. Appropriately or perhaps ironically, this past weeks Journal Science 16 Oct Vol 326 No 5951 created a Special Section on Advances in Neuroscience Methods. I will post URL links to some of the articles & editorials, as my contribution in absence.

    •  It was a nice small group which I really liked. Jillian helped facilitate great conversations - where everyone got a chance to talk. Even me :). Varied levels of experience in neuroscience with a spectrum of background made for very interesting topics. Looking forward to the next one.
    •  It was great conversation and we talked about what types of discussions we wanted in the future.
